When I first launched Theme Hybrid back in 2008, I done everything with WP’s built-in pages. Themes, plugins, documentation, and everything else was a “page”. That became unwieldy. Eventually, WordPress allowed custom taxonomies and post types. I was in developer heaven.
It didn’t take long for me to convert this site over to a custom system that would take advantage of all this cool stuff.
After fiddling with my system for a few years, I decided it was time to package it up and put it out there for other theme authors to use (one for plugin developers is in the works).
Today, I want to introduce you to the Theme Designer plugin.
What is Theme Designer?
In a nutshell, it’s a theme portfolio manager for WordPress theme authors.
Some of you may be thinking that you could simply use any ol’ portfolio plugin, but that’s not going to give you the tools that are specific to theme development. Tools such as pulling in data from WordPress.org (e.g., ratings, active installs, and downloads). Or, tools like meta fields specifically catered to WordPress theme authors.
Theme Designer is a plugin made for theme authors by a theme author. It can handle something as simple as the themes page on this site all the way to something more complex such as the WordPress.org theme directory or even ThemeForest.
Basically, if you make WordPress themes and want to showcase them on your site, this is the plugin you should be using.

You can see an example of the front-end output on my themes page. Of course, you’ll want the front end to look like your own site, so there are tons of template tags and shortcodes for you to use.

- $125 – Plugin + Membership – Comes with one year of developer-level support to Theme Hybrid.
- $90 – Plugin Only – For those who don’t want support or already have a support membership here.
Plugin updates are $free for the life of the plugin. Support is on a year-to-year basis.
